The World of Hector Hornsmith

The World of the Hector Hornsmith Pirate Chronicles now has its own unique database. Using freebase, I have now managed to create the world surrounding Hector Hornsmith and the Pirates of Wallasey.

It is now possible to view all of the characters, places and areas that feature in the Hector Hornsmith Chronicles. The database is being constantly updated due to the amount of information I need to upload, but it is definitely taking shape.

What I enjoy about using freebase is that it is allowing me to add virtually any data that I like, which is making it more user interactive for the reader.

The history of Pirates and Smugglers in Wallasey has been left to local legends being passed round via word of mouth until my friend Gavin Chappell delved deeper into the historical world that had been left untouched for a couple of centuries.

Through Gavin's hard work it has allowed me to expand on the subject and add a fictional twist that has been left untouched by the likes of Disney and through Hector Hornsmith true tales will be told on what it was like to be a Pirate or a Smuggler living in little ole Wallasey during the 17th and 18th Centuries.

Already I have released several Hector Hornsmith Diary entries in a preface format with Historical facts in my book "The Preface to the Memoirs of Hector Hornsmith" which is part of the Hector Hornsmith Chronicles. This was to be aimed at children of an older age and the first book following the preface is called "The Torment of Tortuga" Which picks up from where the diary entries left off. Due out September 2013

The next part of the Chronicles was the first part of "The Treasure of Treasures" written for the younger reader titled "Ye Black Rock" This was the first part of three in which sees Hector Hornsmith speaking of his time at sea with his good friend Captain John "Bones" Gray searching for the Treasure of all Treasures. "Nope I will not be telling you what that will be just yet)

The last current project that is on the go at the moment is called "The Inventor's Quest" which is also part of the Hector Hornsmith Chronicles. However this is set in the 19th Century long after the death of Hector Hornsmith and the rest of the Pirates. William Withens is the inventor in the story and through sheer luck, he stumbles upon the hidden underground tunnels beneath Wallasey and eventually comes into contact with Hector Hornsmith's diary.

Through finding the diary, William Withens is sent on a quest in the search for the lost treasure that was hidden somewhere by Hector Hornsmith and the Pirates of Wallasey. This is actually not far from the truth, beneath Mother Redcaps Inn somewhere in the network of underground tunnels. There is thousands of pounds worth of missing loot and treasures. Following Mother Redcaps death much of it was left unclaimed and lost where ever she had hidden it. To this day many still ponder just what could be hidden down beneath Mother Redcaps within the tunnels.

So as you can tell I have mixed up a lot of facts with fiction and this has become the world of the Hector Hornsmith Chronicles. Join Hector and the pirates on their adventures within the books and find out just what may come from the voyages on the seven seas.

  1. Arrr. Sounds like fun! You never think of pirates as small town boys. "I be right sorry, matey, but I cannot be raiding yon merchant ship this weekend. I promised to tend the ducking booth at the village fete."

    1. Hi Elizabeth, that is a great example of how some places get overlooked in history. The River Mersey was one of the busiest shipping lanes, if not the busiest in the 18th century due to Liverpool. You can imagine people sitting on the other side of the river thinking about how they could steal the cargos from some of the ships. This was actually put into action with the Perch Rock light. People would shine lights to attract the ships over to Ye Black rock (New Brighton) and the ships would crash and get stranded on the rocks and looted severely. The smugglers and wreckers would then disappear into the hidden tunnel networks that ran right along the coastline, to escape capture. It is amazing how overlooked it has been in history.
